The Conducting Authority Of IPL is the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As per the Sources, the IPL Will be conducted for 2024 in the month around March 2024 (Tentatively). The IPL 2024 Auction will be conducted around January 2024 (Expected). What Is IPL Auction 2024?
The IPL auction is the event by which the 10 IPL Teams recruit new players for the 2024 IPL Competition.
How Does IPL Auction 2024 Work?
- Each of the 10 teams is given a budget of 85 Crores to fill up their squad with a maximum of 25 Players.
- Before doing the Auction begins, the team are provided with the opportunity to retain all players that they would like to keep from the last session.
- The budget that is left after completing the retention process is then spent during the auction.

- The team squad can have a maximum of 8 foreign players of which only 4 foreign players are permission to be part of a playing XI at any given point in time in the match.
- Each teams method of recruiting players is different.
Let’s take an Example From 2023:
- Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrises Hyderabad have spent 74.25 Crore on Retaining 17 and 22 of last session’s 25 man squad respectively, Leaving them approximately 10.75 crores to fill up the remainder of their squad at the auction.
- Kings XI Punjab, however, has only spent 31.8 Crore on retaining 16 of their 25 man squad, leaving them 53.2 Crore to sign 9 more players at the auction.
- The retention process for session 2023 finalised on 20-January-2023.
What is the Base Price in IPL Auction 2024?
- The base price of a IPL Player is the lowest price from which the bidding for that particular player starts.
- No Player can be sold below this price.
- Players can decide their own base price range as long as it is higher than INR 10 Lakhs and lower than INR 2 Crore.
- Capped and foreign players generally set the price closer to the ceiling whereas uncapped Indian players set relatively lower base prices.
- Each of the 292 IPL Players available at the time Auction has set themselves a base price.
- The process is complicated further by the “Right to Match” Cards, which were introduced in 2018
- This allows a player’s previous team to match any winning offer for a player that has just been released.
- In Some cases, teams will have released a player with the intention of signing him back at a cheaper price using a “Right to Match” Card.
